i think this is really disgraceful.

SEVEN video files were found on the personal computer of a Singapore Airlines (SIA) pilot who was fined A$12,000 for trying to bring child pornography into Australia, court documents showed on Wednesday.

Some of the videos contained footage of rape, sexual violence and children engaged in sexual activity, the documents said.

Captain Ng Kok Yauw, 41, a Malaysian, piloted a Singapore Airlines flight last Saturday from Singapore to Adelaide, Australia, when customs officials searched his laptop and found video clips of child pornography, Adelaide court documents seen by Reuters said.

Ng, who appeared in court on Monday, pleaded guilty to charges of importing banned material and making a false statement to a customs officer.

He could not be reached for comment but Singapore Airlines, the world’s second-largest airline by market value, said the airline was conducting its own investigation.

PS: Note that the writer of this article emphasised the fact that the captain, though employed with SQ, was actually a Malaysian? ha. I think he must have been missing his family on Chu San you see.

i have never attended this lecture before. and i do not know what has been going on in this module. i was really blur in the first tutorial and my next tutorial is tomorrow. however, i have to hand in an assignment tomorrow which i do not know how to start writing. just 5 minutes ago, i decided to try and watch the webcast to understand the topic better. but after listening to dr. anne raffin’s first sentence, i almost fainted.

i will thus, not attend tomorrow’s lecture as well. gosh!

somewhere 10 minutes into the lecture she asked, are you all with me? I burst out laughing. I have of course stopped watching the webcast.

shopping.

oh man, this doesn’t work for me. cos whether i am sad or what, i think i do still spend too much on shopping. however this is an interesting read.

Sad and introspective? Don’t go shopping…

Feeling glum and introspective, and think a little shopping might be the ideal therapy?

Don’t do it.

According to a study released Friday at the annual meeting of the Society for Social and Personality Psychology, inward-looking people who are down in the dumps tend to spend more money on the same item than their neutral-emotion counterparts.

Earlier studies have drawn a link between mood and spending habits, but this one highlighted the key role played by how self-focussed a person is.

“It is the combination of sadness and self-focus that drives the effect, and it turns out that sadness leads to an increase in self-focus,” said Cynthia Cryder, a doctoral student at Carnegie Mellon University and one of the co-authors of the study.

“What we think is going on is that sad and self-focussed people are feeling pretty bad about themselves and have a decreased valuation of themselves. They want to enhance this valuation, and one way to do this is by acquiring material goods,” she said.

Placing a higher value on those goods could be an attempt by the sad, self-focussed person to boost their self-esteem by transferring the value of the item to themself.

The big problem is, the purchase is often regretted later.

“A huge key to avoiding decision-effects like this is being aware that you’re sad in the first place. But that’s rather hard to do,” Cryder said.

“Participants in studies such as ours usually have no idea that their feelings influence their decisions, so it’s impossible to correct,” she said.

“Secondly, always re-evaluate major purchases one day or one week after you make them so that you can make sure that whatever you bought is still attractive to you,” Cryder said.

“That lowers the probability that you’ll have an over-priced mistake due to some fleeting influence that you didn’t know about and still don’t know about. You just know, ‘Wow… why did I pay so much for that?’”

piles.

i hate piles. they are irritating. sometimes they affect me when i bowl. sometimes it bleeds. sometimes its painful. i know it sounds disgusting but it irks me too. i hope they go away. i have seen the doctor twice and they told me its so small no one wants to operate on it. i have had it for close to a 12 years. it sucks. but i have learnt to live with it. the following is highly interesting though.

It has been identified by Dr. Paul Wolf, 2001, that Napoleon Bonaparte could have won the Battle of Waterloo by attacking earlier in the day, but Napoleon Bonaparte delayed his attack because he suffered greatly from hemroid pain that morning. By the time the afternoon came, the weather and so on, advantaged the British.

Napoleon Bonaparte suffered greatly from hemroid pain during many of his battles, as the tension of battle apparently caused his sphincter muscles to tighten horrendously on his hemroids, thereby generating massive pain and discomfort for him.

Napoleon Bonaparte used bathing to help control his hemroid pain, but during the battle of Waterloo he was constipated which made his discomfort and possibly his pain much worse and, he had no time to sit in a bath to ease his miserable state.

i think its rather hilarious. i think thats why i lost to law.

i was waiting for a taxi with my mum after dinner today. suddenly 3 chinese malaysians dragging their suitcases came up and cut our queue right under our noses. It was barely metres away. of course dear me couldn’t endure it anymore and blurted out something in chinese that goes like; im just feet away and can see you clearly, yet you daringly cut our queue like that. the reply he gave was just absurdly disgusting. he said (in seriously ‘lian bang’ chinese), whats wrong with me waiting for a taxi here? its not as if this road belongs to you. he ended by saying what a joke. at that point my dear mum could see i was in a rage and instinctively knew that i was going to hurl some not very nice things at that god-damned idiot and jump to stop me. if she was not there, boy oh boy thats the end of him.

if you are interested to know what i was going to say, i was going to tell him to fuck off in a nice way and bring your nonsense back to your home country. its you these kind of people that mar the status of your country. i have malaysian friends reading, but seriously, some people from that country are just downright disgraceful, especially a good number of taxi drivers. we have many bad taxi drivers here too, but at least they don’t try touting or try to suck the money out of you.

anyway, i have been running. which is a good thing. my next running day is monday and im kinda looking forward to it.

tomorrow could be the biggest day in bowls history as the biggest statement in bowls could be made. I think its the best if this statement could be made by bee yian and myself. I think there are no others better suited to do it. i just need to focus.
